The Ministry of Health of Ukraine together with the State Enterprise “Medical Procurement of Ukraine” (SE “MPU”) met the representatives of the American company Varian Medical Systems. Company’s representatives visited Ukraine in order to participate in the meeting.
Deputy Minister of Health of Ukraine Petro Yemets and Deputy Minister for European Integration Oleksii Yaremenko took part in the meeting.
Varian Medical Systems is among the world leaders in production of linear accelerators, development and installation of technologies for radiation therapy. Such a meeting is the first one among the number of consultations that takes place with the world’s key producers of linear accelerators.
“We are in the process of analyzing the possibility of the producers to participate directly in Ukraine’s public procurement procedures. The project that is being implemented by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, jointly with the SE “MPU”, and with the involvement of the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine, is the first such initiative in the healthcare field in Ukraine. Therefore, it needs additional preparations. The project aims at procuring linear accelerators on the most favorable conditions of the long-term loan. Taking advantage of competitive public procurement we plan to ensure patients’ access to the up to date effective treatment”, - stated General Manager of the SE “MPU” Arsen Zhumadilov.
According to the data of the State Statistics Service of Ukraine in 2020 cancer was the second leading cause of death in Ukraine. Remote radiation therapy using linear accelerators is one of the basic highly effective methods of treating malignant tumors.
In 2022 the Ministry of Health of Ukraine plans to renovate the health care facilities through their technical re-equipment, at the expense of funds allocated from the state budget and loan/s from foreign countries, foreign financial institutions and international financial organizations, through implementation of the investment projects. Among other equipment it is planned to purchase medical linear accelerators.
The project is currently in the planning stage. We continue consultations with the potential participants.
