The government increased spending on the purchase of medicines and medical equipment in 2024 to 12.2 billion UAH

Today, on September 15th, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine supported an increase in healthcare expenditures in 2024 by 24.4 billion UAH. They amount to nearly 202 billion UAH.

Specifically, in the document's draft, spending on purchasing medicines and equipment, which the Medical Procurement Team will acquire for the needs of Ukrainians, has increased to 12.2 billion UAH.

This includes approximately 2.8 billion UAH for the purchase of state-of-the-art medical equipment. For example, there is consideration for acquiring cyclotrons for the production of radiopharmaceuticals used in PET-CT (Positron Emission Tomography-Computed Tomography) diagnostics, which will aid in the detection of oncological diseases and the effectiveness of chemotherapy and radiation therapy.

Additionally, there are plans to allocate 9.4 billion UAH for centralized procurement of medicines and medical products. This includes medications for oncology, hemophilia, rare diseases, medical devices for cardiovascular treatment, endoprostheses, implantation kits, hearing aids, medical products for trauma treatment (including combat-related injuries), and more.

It's worth noting that next year, for the first time, there are plans to carry out centralized procurement of hearing aids with the capability to adjust them to the patient's place of residence.

"I am convinced that during this challenging period for the country, any initiatives within the healthcare system should, taking into account the needs of veterans, create opportunities for universal access to quality and free medical assistance for all Ukrainians," said Viktor Liashko, Minister of Health.

"In the coming year, we will be able to procure even more medicines and medical devices for citizens dealing with various illnesses. We will also have the resources to acquire more equipment for the technical modernization of healthcare facilities. This means that even in challenging conditions, our country is making every effort to care for the health of Ukrainians and expand access to free healthcare," added Edem Adamanov, General Manager of the MPU.
