The Medical Procurement of Ukraine (MPU), commissioned by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, has bought 12 modern incubators for newborns.
The purchase was made within the framework of the initiative of the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky UNITED24. The incubators will be delivered by the end February, 2024 under the terms of the contract.
Incubators are designed to provide thermoregulation of full-term and premature newborns who need a special microclimate. Also, a lamp for the treatment of hyperbilirubinemia (jaundice) is supplied together with the incubators.
Thanks to these devices, doctors can nurse premature babies who need special conditions for some time. They maintain temperature, humidity, oxygen level, and other parameters that are necessary for the normal development of newborns.
The total value of the contract is UAH 5.2 million with an expected value of UAH 13.7 million. The MPU saved more than 60% of the expected cost.
"Because of the war in Ukraine, the number of premature babies has increased: now we have thousands of vulnerable children who were born before the due term and cannot survive without special help. To save them, special incubators of intensive care are needed. They allow to create conditions for ensuring and maintaining vital functions, such as independent breathing, thermoregulation, and the ability to eat," says Mariia Karchevych, Deputy Minister of Health of Ukraine for Digital Development.
"Thanks to the purchased modern incubators, doctors will be able to assist primarily premature babies. After all, because of the war, the risks of premature birth increase, so newborns for some time need special conditions that can be provided by incubators. This is another important victory that aims to protect the health of the youngest Ukrainians," added Edem Adamanov, General Manager of the MPU.
